Trip Advisor’s network of foodies has voted a Cape Town restaurant their seventh favourite in the world. The local star is La Colombe, which is sited on the Silvermist Wine Estate in Constantia.
This new honour gives a fresh boost to claims that Cape Town and the winelands house some of the best places to eat on the planet.
The restaurant is not cheap. The website says the gourmand (french for posh nosh) menu will set you back R1190, and with a wine pairing this rises to R2090. If you leave out a few dishes, the price will drop – although a tip of 12.5% is expected.
Potential diners are cautioned that, to prevent no-shows, a deposit of R500 a head will be required, or the booking will be cancelled.
While South Africans may find the prices high, they are cheap by global standards, helped by the relative affordability of the Cape’s excellent wines.
