Readers say that SAA must be sold

The majority of readers, 52 percent, believe that the state-owned airline, South African Airways, should be sold.

In The Cape Messenger poll, readers were asked: “South African Airways – R10bn bailout?”

Readers were given the option of selling it, bailing it out and changing management, or that another solution should be found. An option was to bring in a private investor.

Other options were to find another solution or bail it out our and keep its management.

Some 32 percent believed a private investor should be found. This is a solution which was found some 20 years ago when Swissair came in as a junior partner to SAA. This arrangement subsequently fell apart.

Some 12 percent believed it should be bailed out but that the management should be changed.

Only four percent believed another solution should be found. Zero believed it should be bailed out with the management staying in place.
